Imparting knowledge is my business. I give encouragement and commendation to my students on their achievement in the course, whether it is as simple as correctly naming compounds.
Students might not ask for help, so it's important to be proactive in offering support and mentoring. To see a good result, mentoring has to be combined with an ability to explain complex ideas in simple ways.

• I find that an encouraging atmosphere turns a class into a discussion because it removes the nervousness students have about asking questions. They are relaxed and happy in doing this because they know that I will say something optimistic, even if they get the question wrong.
