I am an English-speaking student that learned how to both excel academically but also speak Afrikaans in social settings. Afrikaans is a difficult subject in school (despite it being a linguistically simple language) as many students do not grasp the basic "rules" of Afrikaans.

I am able to teach Afrikaans from Gr 4 to matric. I try to help my fellow teachers and my students where I can. My best experience is with a learner learning Afrikaans; he has never spoken it before. It would become his fourth language. At the end of the year, his father was so proud of him.
