The short answer

Probability measures how likely events are and provides the rules for conditional probability, independence, counting and Bayes’ theorem. A statistics tutor works one-to-one online through your own course notes and past papers, matched to your module and discipline.

The content spine

What probability covers

Probability rules, sample spaces and events

Unions, intersections and complements, and how to translate a word problem into events before any formula appears.

Conditional probability and independence

What P(A|B) actually says, when multiplication is legal, and the trap of assuming independence the question never granted.

Counting rules: permutations and combinations

When order matters and when it does not, and how to spot which counting tool the question wants.

Bayes' theorem at first-year level

Reversing conditional probabilities with a tree or a table first, so the formula stops feeling like magic.

How a tutor helps here: worked past-paper questions, your own lecture slides, and step-by-step working on a shared whiteboard until it clicks.

Where you'll meet it

The course map

Probability sits early in Stats 1 (first-year statistics) and everything after it: distributions, sampling, hypothesis testing, quietly assumes it.

Questions statistics students ask

Is probability the same as statistics?

Probability is the machinery statistics runs on: statistics uses data to reason back to the world, probability tells you how likely things are given a model. First-year courses teach them together, and tutors cover both sides.

Do you help with university statistics courses or just school?

Both, and university stats is our biggest statistics lane: first-year modules through honours. School-level statistics (Grade 10 to matric) is covered too.

Can you work through my own course notes and past papers?

Yes, that's the default. Your module's slides, tutorials and past papers set the agenda, so lessons map directly onto marks.

Do you help with the statistics in my research or dissertation?

Yes, as coaching: the tutor explains the tests and helps you run and interpret your own analysis so you can defend every choice. We do not do the analysis for you.

Online or in person?

Online-first for university statistics (screen share and a shared whiteboard work brilliantly for this material); in-person is possible in the major South African cities.

How much does a Probability tutor cost?

Rates depend on the tutor's experience and the level; you'll see exact prices for matched tutors before committing. No sign-up fees, no long contracts.
