My passion for learning has driven my studies and my helping others realise their own academic potential. I enjoy engaging with people, I love music, and I take keen interest in most current affairs.
At high school, I always found that an effective way to test my knowledge in an area was to explain its core elements to my friends. This has been a trend I have maintained throughout university, and as well as being able to assist fellow students in this regard, it has allowed me the opportunity to extend my high school knowledge to younger learners through UCT's TeachOut tutoring programme.
• 2015 - 2017: Bachelors of Social Science in Economics and Industrial Sociology (University of Cape Town)
• Currently studying for an Honours in Economics at UCT
• 2016: I was granted the opportunity to go on an academic exchange to the University of British Columbia. This was based on academic performance, extra-mural and community involvement, core areas I strive towards.
• 2014: I spent the year qualifying and working professionally as a Scuba Dive Master.
English
I have tutored high school English through UCT's TeachOut program, and, having thoroughly engaged with the subject at school, I find that helping others understand it comes relatively naturally to me.
Afrikaans
While I consistently performed in Afrikaans and other languages throughout high school, I am best-suited to teach up to Grade 10 level.
French
While I consistently performed in French and other languages through to Matric, I am probably best-suited to teach up to Grade 10, as it has been a few years since I have used the language academically.
History
History was my favourite and highest-achieving school subject. I have consistently been comfortable explaining concepts to others, and as such I have supplemented my undergraduate degree with history electives and tutored on an informal basis.
Mathematics
Having obtained 79% for my matric mark, I feel comfortable tutoring Maths up until Grade 10. I have maintained a strong mathematics focus through my undergraduate major of Economics, and believe that I am able to convey mathematical theory clearly.
Economics
Although I was unable to take Economics as a high school subject, it was one of my majors for my undergraduate degree. As such, I have developed a thorough background in most micro- and macro-economic theory, development economics and econometrics.
Guitar (Contemporary)
I've been playing the guitar for 8 years. Having studied & trained in theory and improvisation through the Jazz Workshop for 3 years, I'm keen to teach any element of guitar-playing across genres & willing to take on beginner or advanced players.
