Afrikaans didn't come naturally to me until I started committing myself. I began assisting peers at the senior high school level, and have since tutored primary and high school students in what is, to my delight, a beautiful and accessible language.
I really enjoyed Afrikaans as a school subject. Many students move to Cape Town from other provinces where the level of Afrikaans is not as high as in Cape Town and I feel that I can help bridge this gap.
My home language is Afrikaans, however I am bilingual. I have a deep love for my mother tongue and as a result I received distinctions in the subject all throughout high school. I am friendly, approachable and confident in my work.
I have enjoyed learning more about South Africa's diverse cultures through learning the languages. Whilst I have not formally taught the subject, I have performed well in Afrikaans FAL at school and I currently still receive teaching in Afrikaans.
I am able to get the basics of Afrikaans across in a clear manner. I understand that Afrikaans is a language that takes a lot of work and repetition in order to grasp concepts and I'm not afraid of putting in the required hours to do so.
I have been teaching and tutoring language and literacy across a wide range of ages and levels. I achieved a B average for Afrikaans in Matric.
I am a qualified Learning Support teacher. I work with learners who have learning barriers on a daily basis. I am busy designing my own reading program which will benefit learners from Grade R to Grade 3.
My home language is Afrikaans and even though I attended both an English medium primary and high school, I matriculated with a distinction in Afrikaans Home Language. I enjoy showing students the benefits and joy of having an additional language.
Afrikaans is one of the most beautiful languages still alive today. I hope to help both non-Afrikaans speakers and Afrikaans speakers master and appreciate the language.
